Patients must discuss any past history of swelling in the legs or blood clots that may contribute to this condition with a physician. Anesthesia and cardiac complications are risks associated with any surgery, even in patients without special conditions. These conditions usually require hospitalization and additional treatment. If a patient experiences shortness of breath, chest pain or unusual heartbeats after surgery, the patient should seek medical attention immediately.
